The Wilhelm Scream
My interest in vocal music led to a leadership position as Music Director of Maize Mirchi, a South Asian-inspired a cappella group at the University of Michigan. In this role, I led the group’s creation of our ICCA competition set (12 minutes of song and on-stage choreography), which focused heavily on storytelling with multiple voices, perspectives, and languages, and utilized musical elements from Western music theory and Indian Classical Carnatic theory. One of my personal contributions to the set was the arrangement of James Blake’s The Wilhelm Scream, which won the competition’s award for Outstanding Arrangement, Outstanding Soloist, and led us to Semifinals (Semifinals was cancelled due to COVID-19). The link below is the final mix (unmastered) that will be featured on Maize Mirchi’s upcoming album Moments Passing, which also features other arrangements I wrote for the group. For the past year, I oversaw the recording and production of this album in collaboration with industry professionals. I believe this arrangement showcases my love of choral composition, and the mix demonstrates my passion for audio engineering.
